Last questions...

Soon we'll be on our way to the big apple! We are both in amazement that is has arrived so quickly! This will be one of our last posts as things are starting to get a little hectic. We have received a few questions that we think everyone will benefit from, so here goes...

1. How do I get from (point a) to (point b)?
- Please refer to Google maps or Mapquest for this. You can enter an intersection rather than an actual address and it will give you decent directions. Since we are unaware of construction, parades, street fairs, etc., we are unsure if our directions will get you there.

2. How much should I tip in NYC?
- Tipping in NYC is essential! Check out this article for amounts, etc.

3. How much money should I bring?
- There are numerous ATMs throughout the city, however if your account is with a smaller bank, there will likely be a surcharge. We usually bring enough cash for the first few days of meals, cabs, etc. (Roughly $100 - $200). We use our debit cards at any chance possible (a lot of places in NYC only take cash) and break $20's at every opportunity to keep singles available for tipping and cabs. However, this is just a suggestion and completely dependent upon your spending habits. As a side note, we do not keep all of our money in one pocket, just in case of pick pockets.

4. What is the nearest subway line to the hotel?
- Rockefeller Center, 57th & 7th, or 57th & 6th. Please utilize the subway map finder for your best routes.

5. Where do I purchase a subway pass?
- At any subway entrance - go down the stairs and there will be a machine. Please read the MTA transit site so you are more aware of the guidelines, prices, etc.

6. Is it safe to ride the subways?
- We think so, but we do not ride them after 9pm, if possible. Just be alert and try not to proclaim that you are a tourist. Other than that, you are fine. We'll even ride the subway with you to help you get the hang of it. Quick note: When you swipe your card in the turnstile, watch for the word "go" - as soon as it says push through the turnstile. If you are not quick enough, it will lock you out for two minutes and you will need to go to the attendant and ask them to help you (if there is one), otherwise you will have to wait. Sometimes, it even helps to have the person (provided they are part of your group) swipe yours so you can proceed through quickly. While it sounds intimidating, it is easy once you get the hang of it.

7. What's one thing we shouldn't miss in NYC?
- Bagels (go to Ess-a-bagel!), cupcakes and Grand Central Terminal (however, do not go here around rush hours!!)

8. Any last words of advice?
- Read the safety section of our blog! Also, if you plan to buy souvenirs - buy them when you see them, don't say you'll come back and get it b/c you'll waste time trying to get back to it. Trust us, we've lost countless hours doing this. Last, plan what you are going to do, but not to the minute. Flexibility is a good thing in the city since you'll find a treasure around every corner.
